Maximizing your new HP docking station

Welcome to the 2022/23 school year!  I look forward to providing you with weekly snippets of useful technology information every Tuesday.

This year teachers received new HP laptop computers with docking stations.  Here are a few tips to help you maximize your use of this new classroom technology.  To get started, plug your laptop into the docking station.

  1. To activate the computer, press the button on the docking station.  This should wake up the computer if it has gone to sleep.
  2. Keep the laptop lid closed while it is plugged into the docking station.   Opening the lid is unnecessary if you are using the monitor and/or projector.
  3. You have a couple of viewing choices for your laptop screen.  You can duplicate the screen, which mirrors it to your monitor and projector.  Or you can extend the screen, which allows you to view one thing on your screen and another thing on your projector.  (This is very handy for playing movies to your class while you continue to work on your computer.)
    • To navigate between duplicating and extending your screen, press the WINDOWS P buttons on your keyboard.  Follow the prompts on your screen.
If you have any questions about the use of your new laptop or how it interacts with your docking station and projector, please reach out to the media center.  We are happy to help!
