We've all been there. You plan to show a snippet of a video on YouTube. Your attentive students are watching. The following series of unfortunate events ensue:

  1. A bunch of advertisements start playing.
  2. You struggle to get the playhead to the right part of the video.
  3. The video buffers.
  4. Your students lose interest and start watching TikTok videos on their phones.
Never fear. You have the power to avert this scenario by using your iPad to record a screen capture of the streaming video. By saving the video to your iPad, you can ensure that none of the above problems occur. You can then upload the saved video to Google Classroom. You can even add your own narration to the video while you capture it.  Watch the video below to see how.


Videos that are saved in your Photos app can easily be uploaded to Google Classroom.  When creating a post in Google Classroom, select the Attachments icon and choose Pick Photo.  Easy peasy!

Formatting Google Slides for printing

Students often ask us in the media center how to print slide show presentations.  Often we discover that the slides have been formatted in a way that makes them look wonky when printing full page.  This is easy to fix ... if the presentation is formatted correctly at the very beginning.   By default, Google presentations are formatted to play in a widescreen format (16:9 ratio).  This size does not correspond to the size of a piece of paper.  Printing a widescreen presentation will squash the slides and will not fill the page.  If you want to make your presentation print-friendly, you must change the page margins before designing your slide show.  Here's how: Changing slide size on desktop computer: Select File > Page setup .
