CocoMaterial is a website that offers thousands of copyright-free, hand-drawn illustrations. If you are looking to place an image into a document or slide, CocoMaterial is a one-stop shop that provides high-quality clipart illustrations that are simple and easy on the eye. I hate sifting through millions of blurry or overly complicated images in Google when all I want is a simple graphic that looks good on my document or presentation. If you agree that simple is better, then CocoMaterial is a great place to look for images.
You can customize the images in CocoMaterial before downloading them. You can change the stroke (outline) color, and you can fill the image with a chosen color. By default the images are black-and-white illustrations with black outlines.
When you download an image, CocoMaterial provides you with a compressed zip file that contains both a PNG file as well as an SVG file. You will probably never use the SVG file; these files are for graphic artists using programs such as Adobe Illustrator. The PNG file works great in all of our word processing and slideshow applications. The quality is impressive; you can enlarge the image quite a bit before seeing pixelization.

Chatbots, such as ChatGPT , allow users to generate a wide variety of texts, including school essays. The results are pretty impressive. Images can be conjured using DALL-E by merely suggesting them to your computer. Again, the results are pretty impressive. I am on a committee that is investigating the implications of AI. We are learning about the capabilities of AI, how to prepare for it in schools, how to harness its power for good, and everything else that comes with such a transformative technology. Students often ask us in the media center how to print slide show presentations. Often we discover that the slides have been formatted in a way that makes them look wonky when printing full page. This is easy to fix ... if the presentation is formatted correctly at the very beginning. By default, Google presentations are formatted to play in a widescreen format (16:9 ratio). This size does not correspond to the size of a piece of paper. Printing a widescreen presentation will squash the slides and will not fill the page. If you want to make your presentation print-friendly, you must change the page margins before designing your slide show.
